To the Water Polo SA Community
I am sorry to announce that our Executive Officer, Mark Howells, has resigned to take up a full-time role with The Aquadome. Whilst this is disappointing, we must move forward. For the interim period I will take over responsibility for the Executive Officer functions with support from Mel Beames, Anna Porcaro and the other Board members. Please be patient as we work through this time, but also feel free contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org with any concerns.
Many of you are also aware that water polo nationally has been under a review process. Details are on the WPA website (https://www.waterpoloaustralia.com.au/about-us/governance-reform/). The intention is to bring stability and better governance to the sport, as well as improve our financial performance through efficiencies and improved revenues. Sport Australia, on behalf of the Federal government, is the key driver given it contributes over $3m to the sport, mostly through the AIS High Performance program. For our local efforts, the Government of South Australia is a significant contributor and we have remained in close contact with the Office of Recreation, Sport & Racing throughout the review process.
The WPA Review Committee will bring its recommendations to the wider community shortly. Once these are available, we will hold information sessions and I will be available to answer questions.
Finally, the Social Competition and current Pres-Season Competition have been great successes. Work is underway on the Summer Competition, but this will not be a success if players don’t register. The Technical Committee and the Clubs need to understand player numbers, which come through member registration. I encourage everyone to renew their registration through MemberPool (your club can help you) and to encourage new players to sign up with a club.
